What is Quality?

n

“It is the degree to which a system. Component or process meets requirements.

n

Or

n

I.E.E.E.:-

n

“The degree to which a system, component or process meets customer or user needs or expectations

n

ISO 9000:-

n

As per ISO 9000 standard “Quality” is the totality  features or characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy either stated or implied needs.

n

Testing:–

n

If we go by testing perspective, Quality is the one which separated the black from the white or what we call features(meaning Bugs) in the software which are never asked by its stakeholders.

n

Customer:-

n

Customer definition can be that it is combination of “Features”,”Cost”,”Time”. Lack of quality in a product means missing or lacking of required and desired features.

n

Thus incase our customer doesn’t like the final outcome, it is needless to say that the effort and cost invested on the whole exercise is futile.

n

Example:- incase we as customer order some dish in restaurant but even after waiting for 30 minutes we are delivered the tasteless, saltless or bitter food we can say Quality of the food of the restaurant is poor and next time around we are not coming to dine here, also we try to spread this word to all of our friends so that at least they can learn from our experience.

n

Same is the case with software industry Quality is the key factor for client satisfaction, retention and expansion of product.
